Gypsy for God

Thanks to Nicole Pyles, at WOW Women on Writing, for another book review invitation! For this blog tour, I read Yvonne M. Morgan’s book, Gypsy for God. This title perfectly fits the theme of her story about a woman who opens her mind and heart to something new. She leaves behind a career in accounting to take a risk and follow her passion to travel and to help others.

The main character in Gypsy for God moves into her new position as a travel agent filled with self-doubt, not having had prior experience in the travel industry. Then she begins to feel a tug to step outside her comfort zone and learn about new places around the world. She discovers that in doing so, she could make a difference for others.

The narrator learns to let go of uncertainty and allow God to take control of her future. Once she acknowledges His role in her life and purpose, she realizes she can’t go down this new path without his guidance. She reconnects with God to follow His plan, and with her husband by her side, travels to countries she’s never seen. Descriptions of those travel experiences has the reader traveling along with them.

When the narrator begins to see through the eyes of lost, poverty-stricken children in those countries, she understands her purpose. Having lost her job and the hope of expanding her own family, she never gives up on God. He leads her to places like the United Arab Emirates, Nepal, India, and Kenya where she encounters seemingly lost children. She begins to see the impact of human trafficking and child exploitation.

What brings her to her knees is hearing the parable in the bible of the lost sheep (Luke 15: 3-7) and how she could apply what she learned to the experience of those lost children as well as her own personal losses. Praying about those situations wasn’t her first thought in the beginning when she trusted herself to take control. But then she realizes the gift of starting over and looking to God for strength along the way. One of my favorite lines in the book: “The warmth of the moment chased away the chill of the air.”

I don’t want to give away the ending, but let’s just say that through the narrator’s work, more children around the world have been able to attend school and have adequate food, shelter, and so much more. Her own life is blessed with gifts beyond her imagination, “God helped me to no longer doubt myself and my abilities. I lost my fear of the unknown…and I found satisfaction in the work.”

At the end of the book is a list of resources for readers wanting to help lost children everywhere as a gypsy for God.
